Day 12 - 25 Apr 2014

Today we visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda breeding.

The day was overcast and miserable. It started raining, and the temperature dropped as we entered the complex. You could almost feel the disappointment as we expected the rain to adversely impact our Panda viewing. After about a 1/2 hr the rain eased somewhat and we started to spy Pandas, As it turned out this weather is to the Pandas liking, they do not like the heat, and frolliced in the cooler weather. Some miserable weather but plenty of Pandas.

As normal the final act was to visit the shop and purchase items. I got a jacket for Astrid. I had already picked up a Panda backpack for Soren

After lunch we visited the Sichuan Silk Embroidery Museum.
They had some beautiful hand embroidered samples and of course the compulsory shop. The items on sale were beautiful with some nice prices e.g. over $50,000. I wasn't planning on any purchases until with Di's help I found some bird on tree embroidery. I liked it, I hope Lorraine does.

Some of the looms they used  How they know what is going on I don't know. I suspect like other work once you know what is happening it makes sense.

Tonight was our special Sichuan dinner.  At least there were some differing dishes then we had been served for most meals, but the food was really dumbed down for western tastes. I'm beginning to be jealous of some of the dishes the locals are consuming.

Doesn't everyone have a bathroom which has glass opening onto the bedroom. Reminded me of Mandy Rice and Christine Keeler.
